The Bavarian Inn was built in 1930 as a private residence. The famous Greystone Mansion in 1962 was converted to a Country Inn and extensive renovations were completed in 1977. In December of 1981, luxury overnight accommodations were added to the Bavarian Inn concept. Four Chalets were built in Bavarian Alpine Motif, a total of forty two elegantly furnished state rooms, all with balconies overlooking the Potomac River Bend. In 1994 the "Schwartzwald Haus" was completed. Built also in the Bavarian Motif, the "Black Forest Building" offers conference facilities for groups of 5 to 200, with an outdoor flagstone terrace. The building houses an additional 30 guest rooms, some handicap accessible, bringing the total number of rooms to 72. [Visits: 436] 164 Shepherd Grade Road - Shepherdstown, West Virginia 25443
At 'Boydville' time has stopped at a slower, quieter, more genteel era...
An inviting 1812 manor house with country charm, known as Boydville, awaits you on 10 park-like acres in Martinsburg, WV. It's as lived in and comfortable as it is historic. One hundred year old trees and boxwood and wide expanses of lawn provide country living with in-town access to restaurants and shops. Once you turn into the long lane of maples at 601 South Queen Street leading to Boydville's boxwood circle, you'll leave the hurrying world outside. The two feet thick stone walls of the Boydville manor house, now Inn, offer the same restful visit today as enjoyed by War of 1812 hero General Elisha Boyd, Confederate General Stonewall Jackson, Senator Henry Clay, US Ambassador to France Charles Faulkner and other notables through history. The Cheat River Lodge was acquired by Joe and Roxye Marshall in 1984. Since, the Lodge itself has been slowly transformed from a rustic hunting and fishing inn to a romantic riverfront getaway. In addition, seven cabins have been added as vacation rentals. The cabins range from riverfront to mountain, log to stone, and historic to contemporary, but they all have a private hot tub! The Cheat River Lodge and the Marshalls have earned an excellent reputation for their hospitality which has been recognized by numerous travel guides and newspapers.

Picture a European style country house hotel cascading down a limestone ridge on fifteen levels, 2000 panes of glass flooding the interior with light. Imagine the rich patina of old wood, the gleam of polished brass, the deep jewel tones of oriental carpets. Imagine, too, Flemish oils, African masks, dramatic contemporary sculpture, and a library lined with books. Add the flicker of candles, the warmth of a fire. A loveseat. An intimate table for two. A quiet place to be alone together. Gardens bursting with color, a meandering stream, ducks on the pond, a hammock. The gold of Autumn. The beauty of a winter storm.
